A Day in the Life of an Intensive InHome Family

When you’re worried about your child’s behavior, every day can feel like a struggle. The arguments, the outbursts, the skipped classes, the sleepless nights—sometimes it feels like you’ve tried everything and nothing is working.

If that sounds familiar, you might be wondering what Intensive InHome Services (IIH) actually look like in real life. What would it mean to have a team come into your home? How does it feel for parents? And most importantly…does it really help?

Let’s walk through what a day in the life of an Intensive InHome family might look like.

Morning: Setting the Tone for the Day

Before IIH services, mornings might have felt like chaos—arguments about getting out of bed, rushing out the door without breakfast, forgotten homework, or fights with siblings.

With an Intensive InHome team, mornings can start to look different. A team member might sit down with you and your child the evening before to plan out the morning routine step by step. They help you create a visual schedule, practice calming techniques, and set realistic expectations.

Over time, mornings feel less like battles and more like teamwork.

Afternoon: RealTime Coaching

One of the biggest benefits of IIH is that it happens where life actually happens—at home and in your community.
Maybe your child struggles after school with following rules, staying focused on homework, or controlling emotions when frustrated. Instead of waiting until the next therapy appointment, an IIH team member can be right there with you, showing you how to respond in the moment.

They might model how to use coping skills, help you set boundaries, or work through a behavior plan sidebyside with you and your child. You’re not just getting advice—you’re seeing strategies in action.

Evening: Building Family Connections

Dinner time or bedtime can often trigger power struggles or meltdowns. An IIH session might focus on helping your family establish evening routines, practice positive communication, or create a calm winddown plan.

Sometimes, the team will include family sessions where everyone has a voice, so your child can feel heard and you can feel supported. Parents often tell us, “We finally feel like we’re on the same page again.”

Is It Really That Hands-On?

Yes! IIH services are designed to be intensive and practical. Instead of just talking about challenges in an office, we help families work through them in real time. Services are shortterm—often lasting 3–6 months, and with insurance approval they can continue for up to 12 months—giving your family the tools you need to build lasting change.
